The city of Visaginas was created out of the Lithuanian forest in the 1970s in order to service a powerful Soviet nuclear power station: a window of progress to the West, and a huge industry for Lithuania. Now an EU member-state instead of a Soviet Republic, Lithuania must close the plant, and buy its electricity from Russia instead of selling it there. Visaginas has only this industry, so the closure of the plant is catastrophic. The dream is in ruins, and the town is dying. As most of its residents come from Russia or another former Soviet republic, the 100% Russophone city still feels like a mini-USSR. Although inside Lithuania, people there do not feel part of Lithuanian society and do not speak the language. How will they earn a living ? Where will they go? On a deeper level, who are they and where do they belong?
